The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
~Jeremiah 17:9

“All Together-Chipped Toe Nail Polish and All”

We were heading out for the wedding. I was dressed very nice. Hair was fixed great. Makeup good. All was in order or so it looked. On the outside things looked all together but were they really? If you examined me closely you would notice one thing undone-my chipped toe nail polish. Very visible because I wore sandals.

I frantically searched the entire house trying to find some finger nail polish remover only to find none. It was too late to go to the store and buy some. I had to wear those sandals because they went with the dress. I did not have any matching polish to repaint them. I was running out of cover-up options! So I just went as they were.

So what does this have to do with the heart you ask? So many times we like to walk around like we have everything together. A picture of perfection yet somewhere there is something that is not what it seems. We know it is there but if we cover it up for a bit we can get away with not addressing it. We may look all together on the outside but that is not the true story.

The truth is NONE of us is walking around with all things together even if it appears that way. All around us are so many people hurting. People going through real life hard stuff. People holding onto it and putting on a mask that says otherwise-all is great.

Would you join me and take off that mask? My chipped toenail polish yesterday reminded me of the fact. That God does not look at the outward appearance, God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Will you take a moment with me and take an intent look into your heart? What is it that is chipped in you that needs to be given to God today? We all have something.

Father, thank You for desiring us to be real with You and one another. Lord, You are awesome. You know our hearts and love us despite of that. Lord, make us more and more into Your image as we remove those chipped layers and give them to You. Help us to encourage one another in this. In Jesus Name. Amen.
